A Rite of Passages

2021 · 29’ x 20’ x 10’ · douglas fir

This project was built for Proposals for All during an artist residency on their property near the Oregon coast in Neskowin. The intention of the work was to create a hallmark destination for this future sculpture park.

The design module is an off-kilter arch that grew larger with every iteration and then arranged to form its pattern. It consists of two curved passageways, each appearing to end blindly, into the side of the opposite passage. One can pass through each portal consecutively or step out by weaving in between. The light takes on different patterns and appearances throughout the day.
